LEH - LADAKH

Looking to Travel to Ladakh? Here are some basics that you must know.
- Leh is the capital of the region known as Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
- The best time to go there is June to mid-September- if you want to go by road and May to early October if you are flying into Leh. During winter months everything is shut.
- If you are flying into Leh, keep the first day for complete rest – you need that to acclimatize. Even the day 2 should be minimal sightseeing- only local. If you are coming by road then you are getting acclimatized on the way so it’s much easier.
- If you are traveling with kids make sure they are ok with tons of travel. When visiting this area, consider at least 3-4 hrs of drive nearly every day or every other day.
- Ladakh region is famous for its tundra desert, beautiful scenic views, some of the highest lakes, monasteries, uninhabited small villages, double humped camels world’s highest motorable road, and a picture perfect chances to take best photographs.
- There are two famous routes to get to Leh by road. The first one and more famous and picturesque one is Manali to Leh ( with a stopover of at least a night in Sarchu or Jispa ) and the other is Srinagar to Leh ( with a stopover in Kargil ).
- On road – most of the accommodation available is camping as well as some hotels. However the hotels might not be as elaborate as the ones in major metropolitans. So discount for available facilities. Most Guest Houses are however clean and will have hot water running. Leh is the only place where you will find options for food other than the ones at your hotel.
- Choices to eat out at most places other than Leh will not be aplenty. Remember this is more of an adventure trip and not a resort/ luxury travel.
- 3 star Hotels in Leh and in general are a better option for the picky traveler. Budget options with Guest Houses will satisfy most of the travelers whose emphasis for living is only neat and clean place to stay with. Our recommendation is that it’s a great option ( budget permitting ) to combine Budget accommodation in Leh with mid-range ( or 3 star equivalents) at other places.
- Time and weather permitting spend a day at Pangong Lake in tents right on the lake.
- For trekking options, it generally works better when there is a big group. Small independent treks are little bit more expensive. There are not very many treks that invite others to join.
- Rafting options also vary in Ladakah depending on the time of the year.

HOW TO
SELECT A PACKAGE
There are pretty much 2 ways to pick a package for Ladakh.
- Select by Price
- Select by number of Days you have
Before you read any of our tips or see any of the packages I suggest you read “ all about Travel to Ladakh above”.Here are some tips on how to select a package:
- Personally, we prefer to select the package by number of Days. The price can be worked on by either selecting to travel in group or getting a group together on your own to bring down the price ( as you can see in the exhibited itineraries).
- As transportation cost is one of the biggest costs in your Ladakh travel, the best way is to join a group of 4-5 people or create your own group.
- Group travel is best suited for independent traveler or a couple longing for a minimum of 10 day travel.
- Our favorite tour – taking in consideration the number of days at hand etc. is the 10 day road trip from Manali, Sarchu, Leh, Alchi, Lamayuru,Basgo, Pangong, Nubra, Leh and fly to Delhi
- If you have fewer days, I suggest fly into Leh and fly back. And then spend about 7-8 nights in area around.
- The best way to bring down the cost is Invite more friends for travel or join a group.
- Book well in advance. Atleast a month in advance if doing a jeep tour or 2 months in advance when joining a group tour or a specialized tour like Biking or Trekking.
+ No hidden charges + Book "Budget" tour packages by paying only 35% as advance & pay balance on arrival.
