listed bird sanctuary, The Keoladeo Ghana National Park. A visit to Bharatpur bird sanctuary has been a highlight for many tourists, even the non-bird watchers.
Although the history of Bharatpur dates back to 5th century BC, during the reign
of Matsya kingdom, who was supposed to be the allies of Pandavas in the epic
Mahabharata war, however, in much recent past during early 18th century the city was a Jat community stronghold. It was only in 19th century that the rulers signed the first treaty of friendship between the North West states of India and the East India Company of British Raj after withstanding a persistent war with British.
Today, the town itself is not much of interest other than of course the Keoladeo Ghana National Park attracting huge number of tourists especially during the months of October to February.
