Eating Out and Restaurants : |
Eating out in Amritsar is an experience in itself, after all - the place is known for its hospitality and great food. Perhaps the best known specialties are ‘Amritsari Machhi’ (Fish), ‘Amritsari Kulcha’ (Bread), ‘Bhatti da Murg’ (Roasted Chicken) and its ‘Paranthas’ (Bread with stuffings).
For drink specialties try out Lassi, Sharbat or Rabri. For snacks (heavy snacks) try Seekh Kebab, Mutton Tikka, Samosas and Satpuras. |

Amritsar is one place you can’t go wrong with food, although just beware there is a lot of butter (read as fat) used in most of the food preparations … ….now that’s what makes the indulgence worth its weight in gold!
For the foodies who love to buy and carry home stuff, go ahead and savor the Pinnis, Papad and Vadis of Amritsar.
Some of the more renowned eating places include:
Bhrawan Da Dhaba, Town Hall
Located by the Golden Temple, this is one big restaurant with all vegetarian delicacies. Try the ‘Thalis’ here.
Kesar Ka Dhaba, near Bazaar Passian
Another place to savor the delicacies, Paranthas and Daal are awesome. Located by the Temple and a rickshaw ride away in the by-lanes.
Kundan Dhaba,Opposite Hall Gate
Although located in old town, the food is well worth the effort.
Other noted restaurants in the city include ‘Kwality Restaurant’ and ‘Delite Refreshers’ at Lawrence road, ‘Napoli’ at the Blue Moon Hotel Mall – and ‘Crystal Restaurant’ at Queens Road. Besides these ask the locals for speciality restaurants in the area of your hotel.
